I've been working on my blog, adding tags. What's your excuse?

The hospital is called Reyside, it's in Birmingham, but I wouldn't call it a hospital. A hospital is a place people go to get cured from an illness, but Reyside is a place where people are locked up indefinitely. No attempt is made to cure the patients. I'll write about this in more detail in my full report.

As for karma, I don't believe in it. It's a big subject, I don't know how much I can write about it now. Just a few words:

In our world we're surrounded by injustice. We see it every day. Good people fail in life, while bad people have success. For instance, a person works hard at his job, but he isn't promoted. Another person steals a handbag but isn't punished. So people invent religions to provide an answer. Every religion offers justice, though in different ways. Christianity and Islam say that good people will go to Heaven and bad people will go to Hell. Justice will be done later, at the "final judgement". Other religions have a system of karma, for instance Wicca says that bad deeds are repaid threefold. This means that justice is done here on Earth. Now, the problem that I have with this is the attitude of the believer, whether he's a Christian, Moslem or Wiccan. The Christian or Moslem says, "You're a bad person, so you're going to Hell". The Wiccan says, "You're a bad person, so karma will hit you threefold". This means that the believer is wishing ill on the other person, which is a bad thing in itself. The believer is gloating, rather than being sad that the bad person will suffer.

My personal opinion is that goodness is its own reward. I should do good to all and wish no punishment on those who are bad. I'm no supporter of the Catholic Church, far from it, but I read an interview with Mother Theresa that greatly impressed me. The interviewer asked her, "Aren't you glad that you'll soon go to Heaven and receive a reward for all your good deeds?" Her reply was, "I don't want to go to Heaven. I want to go to Hell so I can help the people who are suffering". This is a wonderful attitude.

On the other hand, I'm not claiming that karma doesn't exist, or Heaven and Hell. All I'm saying is that people use these concepts to give themselves a sense of justice in an injust world. If God exists he exists whether I believe in him or not. If there is a system of karma, it exists whether I believe in it or not. I choose not to believe in karma.

I hope I've expressed myself clearly. Maybe I'll write more about it in a future post, and I hope I'll get a lot of feedback.Mike Hoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09079744279692869325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456620400015224634.post-10827227446340662752013-01-26T06:25:33.289+01:002013-01-26T06:25:33.289+01:00I saw that you answered my post 4 days ago. Karma will hit him hard. I make off-topic posts on this blog occasionally, but they're only short posts. My hospital report will be pages long. I'll have to think it over how I'll do it. Maybe I'll send you a copy first, if you give me your email address.

The changes I was talking about are in my lifestyle. I worked hard for 22 years. I admit it, I was a workaholic. I enjoyed my work and I was good at it. Then after 17 months in hospital I found it difficult to find work. Months rolled by, and the longer I was out of work the more difficult it became to find a full time job. This led to a change in attitude for me. I began to enjoy not working, which is something that would have been unimaginable for me a few years ago. In one sense Dr. Kenney-Herbert succeeded. He destroyed my career. But rather than being bitter about it I'll enjoy my life of leisure.Mike Hoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09079744279692869325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456620400015224634.post-53236910350359541522013-01-22T10:02:39.051+01:002013-01-22T10:02:39.051+01:00I'm sorry to hear about your time in hospital....I'm sorry to hear about your time in hospital. Write about it soon, you hear me? What sort of changes happened to you? I'm interested because I'm going through changes myself. I'm not the person I was 5 years ago. I used to be a nasty bitch now I'm sweet as pie lol.J.T.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06909507454196665178noreply@blogger.com
