I still know what you did last summer (5 Stars)
They got the name of this film wrong. It takes place in July 1998, two years after the attempted murder of Ben Willis, so the title should be "I know what you did two summers ago". But I guess that isn't so catchy. Call it artistic license.
This sequel was less of a box office smash than the first film, though it still made a $20 million profit. Not too bad when you consider that Tom Cruise's "Rock of Ages" made a $60 million loss. Yes, I know that's a random comparison. Critics slammed the film as a repeat of the original. It is a repeat, as far as the formula goes, but why not? It's a teen slasher movie, so all we want to see is teenagers and slashings.
After the first film only Julie and Ray are still alive out of the four friends. Julie goes on holiday with some college friends to Tower Bay, an island in the Bahamas, but the killer is waiting for her. The island is cut off from the mainland by a storm and the killings begin.
I greatly enjoy this film, as you can see from my rating. In suspense and atmosphere it's the equal of the first film, maybe even superior. The film ends on a cliff hanger. There really should have been a third part. The story ended too soon.
Click here to see a weird trailer for the film. It consists entirely of footage not in the film.
