Reset (4½ Stars)
This is the 34th film in the Stuttgart Fantasy Film Festival.
A Chinese science-fiction story! That's not something I see every day.
Nexus, a large Chinese corporation, has been carrying out research into travel into parallel universes. There has been moderate success, apart from people who cross into other universes feeling the urge to track down and kill their doppelgangers. Now a method has been discovered to travel backwards in time within our own universe. It's a fixed time jump of 110 minutes, and it has already succeeded with gorillas, but no human tests have yet been made.
Xia Tian (pictured above) is the second in command of Nexus. An industrial spy kidnaps her son to blackmail her to hand over all of the company's research. When she fails to save her son's life she goes back in time to try again. Then she goes back again, and teams up with her two other selves to battle the spy and his gang.
This is an astonishing big budget production that can be compared with the best of Hollywood movies in action and production quality. Despite the possible complications of time travel, the emphasis is on the action. It's a fast-paced film from beginning to end.
