The Little Hours (3½ Stars)
This is the seventh film in the Stuttgart White Nights Festival.
Supposedly this film was preceded by scandal. The Vatican objected to it when it had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. I don't see why. I'm sure it's not the most scandalous film made about the Catholic Church. Isn't it well known that in past centuries women only joined convents so they could find other lesbians?
That's not the only sin. The priest who oversees the convent is an alcoholic and a liar. Some of the nuns sneak out at night to perform pagan rituals. They're all loud-mouthed blasphemers. The biggest sin is that one of the nuns is a Jew. The shame! But you can't blame her. As I said already, convents used to be the only place to find other lesbians, so she had to pretend to be a Cathoolic.
The film is very funny, but sexually tame. "Virgin Territory" is much more explicit.
