Video of the Day: Wheels on the Bus
YouTube Channel: Cocomelon - Nursery Rhymes
Today's video of the day is "Wheels on the Bus", one of the best known English nursery rhymes. You can find many different versions of this song on YouTube, but I've picked the version made by Cocomelon, YouTube's most successful children's channel. This video has had 360 million views since it was uploaded four months ago, earning $720,000. I know practically nothing about Cocomelon, whether the channel is run by a single person or a large team. What I do know is that the channel currently earns over $3 million a month, far more than any other children's channel.
Cocomelon makes animated nursery rhymes. The animation is up to the standard of any big Hollywood film. The pictures are simple and clear, easy for small children to understand. The channel was created 12 years ago and began to upload videos frequently seven years ago, but in March 2017 there was a big jump in quality. It looks like new animation software, but it was also the beginning of a new strategy. The videos now feature the same five-person family in every video, plus a supporting cast of animals, some of whom we see in "Wheels on the Bus".
Here's the father and the daughter.
Here's the mother and the son.
Here's the baby.
And here are the animals.
I feel that my screenshots don't do the video justice. You need to watch it for yourself. Click here to see the video.
The five family members wear the same clothes in almost every video. This makes them familiar to the viewers. My grandson knows them and loves them.
I almost forgot to mention that the song texts always appear at the bottom, making it easy for older children to sing along.
In my opinion, Cocomelon is one of the three children's channels that deserve to be taken seriously, alongside Bounce Patrol and Blippi. These three channels are different in style, but they all produce videos of astounding quality on a regular basis, good for entertaining and educating children. No other channels come close.
