Marvel 1975.08 - Captain America #188

Captain America and the Falcon #188

Title: Druid-War

Writer: John Warner
Artist: Sal Buscema

Villain: Druid, Alchemoid

Regulars: Peggy Carter, Leila Taylor

Guests: Gabe Jones, Val de Fontaine

Captain fights with the Alchemoid in the middle of the Druid's maze. Is he an artificial creature or a man? The way the Druid speaks, it sounds like an android, as even its name suggests. Captain America considers his opponent to be a man. I'm assuming Cap is wrong.

Cap has difficulty overcoming the Alchemoid, until he notices that he's strongest when standing near the walls. Cap deduces that they're his power source, so he tricks the Alchemoid into destroying the walls. The Druid gives the Alchemoid extra power through the turn of a knob, but the Alchemoid overloads and explodes. "A man has just died". So speaks Captain America. The Druid doesn't care, except to express disappointment at his failure.

Cap battles and easily defeats the Druid himself, but he escapes in a flying Egg. That's what it looks like and that's what Cap calls it.

Meanwhile, Sam Wilson is being held in a SHIELD facility to determine whether he's still under the Red Skull's control. Leila Taylor has been brought in – kidnapped? – so that he can see a familiar face. He only wakes up from his coma briefly.

SHIELD arrives to save Captain America, but he honestly doesn't need the help. He's mopping up the last few of the Druid's men. Agent Eric Koenig offers to take Cap to the Falcon.
