Wild (4 Stars)

This is a powerful film that raises questions about civilisation and the nature of humanity itself. Anja is a young woman who leads a dull life and works in a dull job in a dull city. She doesn't have a boyfriend. Her boss makes sexual advances, but she's not interested in him. She has no contact with her parents, but she's close to her grandfather who's lying in hospital about to die.

One day Anja sees a wolf in the park on the way home. She's fascinated by it. Should I say him? She leaves food for him in the park, winning his trust until she's finally able to drug him and take him home with her.

At first the wolf wants to leave, but he grows used to the apartment. Anja's neighbours complain about the smell, but she wants to carry on living with the wolf. Her own characteristics become increasingly animalistic. She's not just living with a wolf, she's becoming a wolf.

The film fascinates me. I can only make guesses what the film's message is supposed to be. Is it a film about a woman who finds her true nature by abandoning her humanity? I don't know. The film is probably better in its vagueness.
