Sorceress (5 Stars)

As far as erotic horror stories go, this film, made in 1995, must be the best in its genre. It's a teamwork between Jim Wynorski as director and Fred Olen Ray as producer. It unites three giants of the film industry, Julie Strain, Linda Blair and Michael Parks. No, Julie K. Smith doesn't appear in this film, but she does appear in the sequel, so I'm reviewing this film first.

Larry and Howard are two partners in a Los Angeles law firm. After the departure of the old vice president one of them will be chosen for promotion. The two men are friends, but they have something else in common. Both of their wives are witches. The men agree between themselves that Larry is better suited for the promotion, but that isn't good enough for the wives. Each wants her husband to be chosen (and bring more money home), so they begin to cast spells on each other's husbands. It's not a good witch vs bad witch scenario, the women are both bad witches, and their innocent husbands are caught in the crossfire. When Larry finds his wife Erica (Julie Strain) casting spells on Howard he argues with her and accidentally pushes her off the balcony. Before she dies she swears that she will remain with him from beyond the grave.

Howard's wife Amelia (Linda Blair) continues to cast spells on Larry, despite the complaints of her husband. Larry gets over Erica's death surprisingly fast and starts an affair with a new woman, Carol. At first things start well, but Carol becomes more and more like Erica, as if she's being possessed.

Quentin Tarantino calls Michael Parks the world's best actor. It's difficult to argue with that. He only plays a small part in the film, as Howard and Amelia's gardner, who Amelia possesses to carry out her plans, but his short screen time is a pleasure to behold.

Julie Strain is my favourite witch.

Linda Blair comes a close second.
