Wild (4 Stars)

This is an intense film, very powerful in its emotional content despite several disturbing scenes.

A young woman called Anja works in an advertising agency in Halle, Germany. The work is boring, and she has to fight off sexual advances from her boss. She's struggling to cope with the illness of her grandfather, who's been lying in hospital in a coma for weeks. Her sister has recently moved out of the apartment where they lived with their grandfather, taking her furniture with her, so Anja is now alone in a hostile world.

One day she sees a wolf in the park on the way to work. She immediately feels drawn to him. Over the next few days she tries to attract him by placing raw meat in the park. Eventually she manages to catch him by firing drugged needles at him. She takes him into her apartment and attempts to domesticate him. This isn't very successful. On the contrary, Anja becomes wild and animalistic. She takes on wolf-like traits, such as eating raw meat. The wolf isn't her pet, they've become partners. Those around her think her life is falling apart. She's adopted a new life.

It's a fascinating film. The cinema audience sat in absolute silence as they watched the film, and almost no one stood up during the credits. As I said above, there are disturbing scenes, but I shan't go into details. It's horrifying to see Anja become more and more like an animal.

As far as I know, "Wild" has only been released in Germany. It's worth watching, if you can get your hands on it.
