(1) Robert Moog speaks on the first track.
(2) Bill Laswell also appears on tracks 3 and 7, but it's not stated what instruments he plays.
Rating: 4½ Stars
The first track is a spoken introduction by Robert Moog:
"My name is Robert Moog, and my email address is realmoog@bigbriar.com. I would like to present to you the Dark Side of the Moog".
The eight tracks are distinct pieces of music. They aren't mixed together, but they start immediately after one another without a gap.
The album was originally released on Pete Namlook's private label as a limited edition of 2000 copies. In 2016 it was re-released as part of a box set, which is now also out of print.
The contributions of the different musicians are easier to tell apart than in the previous four albums. The second track is pure Schulze. The third track is typical Laswell, but Schulze's synthesizers are recognisable in support. It isn't until the fourth and fifth tracks that Namlook steps more into the foreground, although Schulze is still present. On the sixth track Schulze takes over again. Track seven starts with Schulze, but as it develops it sounds more like the Outland albums that Pete Namlook made with Bill Laswell. The sequencing on the final track can be none other than Schulze, but Namlook is present to support him.
According to the description on Pete Namlook's web site:
"The collaboration between the three musicians you find on this CD combine the styles of Space Music, Electronic and Dub/Ambient to an irresistible cosmos of sound. It seems as if the three masters of their art combined their forces to show their very strengths in music: Klaus for the inimitable chords and sequences, Bill for excellent bass and dark-ethno oriented soundscapes, Peter for complex energetic rhythms, sequences and melodies. The three of them share their love for weird sounds and special effects, sounds that take your sound system to a higher level".
