Bridesmaids over the Edge (3½ Stars)

This short film is included as an extra feature on the Blu-ray release of "Bikini Time Machine", renamed "Swinging Bachelorettes". It follows a similar patten to "Baby Doll Strippers", but it's a better film because the actresses are better. They're actresses that we know from the Medina films. Nicole Sheridan stars as the bride-to-be.

And Christine Nguyen stars as one of the bridesmaids. Wow! What a beauty!

As for the plot... it's the day before Nicole's wedding. She's invited her two bridesmaids Christine and Jassie for a hen party. I refuse to use the word bachelorette, except in the film's title. The film starts with Nicole asking the other women questions, such as the most daring place they've ever had sex, and how they celebrated their own hen parties. Unlike "Baby Doll Strippers", the answers don't seem as natural and were probably scripted.

Then another woman arrives, Brooke, who's been hired as a stripper. She performs for Nicole and the bridesmaids. Then they play a game of Truth or Dare.

Interestingly, "Bridesmaids over the Edge" uses the same musical leitmotifs as the Medina and McKendrick films. The director is listed as Carter Blanche, obviously a fake name. Don't look for a plot or any deep significant meaning in the film; it's just an excuse for sexual titillation.

Bikini Time Machine (4 Stars)

This is the third film from the Medina Collection that Fred Olen Ray has released on Blu-ray this year. That makes me happy, because I want to purchase all 32 films on Blu-ray. Many of the older films look fuzzy on DVD. I'm also happy to see any film starring Jenna Presley, even though she only has a small role at the beginning of the film.

The film is about a university professor who's invented a machine that sends a person's essence into the past. The person doesn't leave the present. She – it's always a woman – remains seated in the professor's office while he observes her activities in the past on a computer screen. No, the woman doesn't need to wear a bikini to travel into the past, but bikinis make a sexy woman like Jenna Presley look even sexier.

A side effect of the time travel is that the woman feels horny and has sex with the first man or woman she meets in the past. That might not seem logical, but what do you expect from a Medina film?

Baby Doll Strippers (3 Stars)

I read that the Blu-ray "Harlots of the Caribbean" contained an extra feature, a short film called "Strippers Inc". I had no idea what it is, but as soon as it started I recognised it as "Baby Doll Strippers" with a new name.

The film, if it can be called that, is about a strip club owner interviewing three girls who want to work for her. After the interviews she asks them to show their skills as private dancers. The girls take turns in pretending to be men, so that the potential strippers can show how they seduce them.

The interview sections were so realistic that they seemed like they were candid question and answer sessions, with the actresses giving honest answers from their own lives. The dancing sections were obviously rehearsed. I greatly enjoyed the interview sections, but the dances didn't live up to my expectations. I doubt I'll ever watch this film again.

Harlots of the Caribbean (4½ Stars)

It's taken a long time to get here. After 20 years, "Harlots of the Caribbean" has finally been released on Blu-ray. I was worried that Fred Olen Ray would only release his bikini films (as he likes to call them) if they starred Christine Nguyen, because she's his most popular actress, but here we have a film with the amazing Beverly Lynne, Rebecca Love, Nicole Sheridan and Beverly Lynne. Did I just say Beverly Lynne twice? It must be the echo out at sea.

That's not a harlot on the Blu-ray cover. It's the pirate queen Morgana, who used to have sex with every man before she made him walk the plank.

And those aren't harlots either. It's Beverly Lynne and Nicole Sheridan, modern day treasure hunters.

In fact, there aren't any harlots at all in the film. It's just a catchy title.

I bought two Blu-rays in the Medina collection that were released at the same time this month. I'll give a complete summary when I watch the other film.

13 Erotic Ghosts (4 Stars)

Fred Olen Ray never ceases to surprise me. Of all the films in the Medina Collection, this is one of the last I would have expected to be released on Blu-ray. It's an old film, made in SD in 2002. It must have taken a lot of work to remaster it for Blu-ray. And now I hold it in my hand. It has a unique place in the Medina films. The sex scenes are all girl-girl, and it's the only film that Fred ever directed that starred the stunningly beautiful Julie Strain. His only other work with her was "Sorceress", directed by Jim Wynorski, for which he acted as producer.

A team of TV paranormal reporters is investigating a haunted castle. On the whole they're sceptics, but they're hoping that they're wrong. If they can film real ghosts they'll make a lot of money. The castle used to house a school for wayward girls. It's the 100th anniversary of a fatal accident. Lightning struck a metal dildo, killing the school's teacher, Baroness Lucrezia, and all 12 of the girls. Since then the girls have been cursed to relive their sexual encounters with one another every day. It could be worse.

The girls are invisible, unless watched with psychic ghost-goggles. There was a lot of high tech in 2002! Unfortunately, the camera can't film the ghosts.

Housewives From Another World (4½ Stars)

I'm happy to say that Fred Olen Ray has re-released another two erotic films on Blu-ray. "Housewives From Another World" is part of the Medina Collection, and "Invisible Centerfolds" is from the McKendrick Collection. I've chatted to him a few times on Facebook, and he's never differentiated between the two collections. He refers to them collectively as his Bikini Films.

It's a long time since I've watched "Housewives From Another World", so I can't make a direct comparison between the films, but I can compare the screenshots with my last review.

Sexual Witchcraft (5 Stars)

This is the second film on the Blu-Ray disc with "Bewitched Housewives". It's nine years since I last watched it, and I'd forgotten how good it is. It was filmed in HD (high density), so I assume that it was easy to remaster for Blu-Ray, but wow! It looks spectacular! The colours are so vibrant that they jump out of the screen. Christine Nguyen needed a Blu-Ray to do justice to her beauty.

I'll use two screenshots of Ted Newsom to show the improvements. This is the DVD.

This is the Blu-Ray. In the case of "Bewitched Housewives" it was a slight improvement, but in "Sexual Witchcraft" the difference is overwhelming. The improvements can be seen most clearly in the nude scenes. Take my word for it. I've just spent half an hour examining every detail of Christine Nguyen's naked body, and she took my breath away.

She's not naked in this film, unfortunately, but I've also been closely examining Michelle Bauer.

And what about Cleopatra, the most beautiful woman who's ever lived? Supposedly. She's played by Vanessa Brink, who's certainly a beautiful woman. She appeared in two other Medina films, "Lady Chatterley's Ghost" and "Bikini Warriors".

Bewitched Housewives (4 Stars)

I'm always happy when films from the Medina Collection are rereleased on Blu-Ray. As usual, Fred Olen Ray has released two films as a double bill. Unfortunately, Christine Nguyen doesn't appear in the bewitching outfit she wears on the cover.

"Bewitched Housewives" is an older Medina film, made in 2006. At the time his films were made in SD (single density), so I'm surprised that the film looks so good on the Blu-Ray disc.

The improvements are subtle but impressive. This is the DVD.

This is the Blu-Ray. Ted Newsom's face has more detail, and the colour is more natural. I could give a dozen examples of the differences, but you'll just have to take my word for it. Even if you have the two films on the disc, it's worth buying them again.

Super Ninja Doll (5 Stars)

Forget the MCU. It had its day. Now we need superhero films like "Super Ninja Doll".

It was made way back in 2007 as the 16th film in the Medina Collection. I can verify that the lead actress, Christine Nguyen, hasn't aged a day since then. As she wrote on Facebook in 2020, "I'm Asian. I'll always be a schoolgirl".

And here she is, sitting at school reading a copy of "Super Ninja Doll". What she doesn't realise is that the comic isn't fantasy. They're adventures that really take place in an alternate reality. The comic jargon is "another dimension". The ruler of this dimension is the evil Tantella. She wants to conquer the Earth by kidnapping the Earth's top scientists and draining their intelligence.

This is Tantella's henchman Gorath, played by the magnificent Evan Stone. Did you know he's appeared in over 1300 movies in his 25 year career? He's been busy.

In the film Gorath becomes stronger by having sex. Before going into action he needs sex to charge himself. I find that weird. With me it's the opposite. After having sex I'm worn out, definitely not in a fit state to conquer the Earth.

The first person that Gorath meets on Earth is Mike Gaglio, Christine's school teacher. I love this screenshot. There's no dialogue, the scene speaks for itself. Mike is an incredible actor, perfect in whatever role he plays.

Here he is telling off Christine for reading comics in class.

He sits down behind his desk before continuing the conversation. Wise thinking.

He confiscates her comic, but Christine has another one. And then kapow! Super Ninja Doll sucks Christine into the comic and asks her for help against the forces of evil. Christine receives a mystical artefact. Whenever she holds it in the air she transforms into Super Ninja Doll.

into this. I preferred her as a schoolgirl, but she needs her super powers.

This is the second film on the Blu-ray with "Tarzeena". The B film? I'm just going by their order. This is definitely the better of the two films. I'd go as far to say as it's one of the best films in the Medina collection. I like it more every time I watch it. I'm also happy to say that the film's remastering is very good. Every scene looks perfect, especially the facial close ups. This is a must buy for anyone who likes super heroes, science fiction or schoolgirls.

Tarzeena (4 Stars)

Fred Olen Ray has done it again. He's re-released two classic Christine Nguyen films on Blu-ray. Today I watched "Tarzeena", comparing the DVD and Blu-ray versions side by side on two screens. My first impression is that the remastering is mixed. In close ups the faces look clearer on the Blu-ray, but in the jungle and desert scenes there's hardly any noticeable difference. I wanted to show screenshot comparisons in this review, but for some reason I can't watch the Blu-ray on my computer. The screenshots in this post are all taken from the DVD. That's a shame. I'll try to solve the problem before I review the other film on the Blu-ray.

If I'd been judging this film on Christine Nguyen's merit, I would have given it five stars. It's let down by the mediocre acting of the husband and wife team Alexandre Boisvert and Nicole Sheridan. Every other actor in the film is excellent.

Christine looks like a Bettie Page impersonator when she's in the hands of the evil Doctor Mortimer.

He throws her onto a bed, still screaming, but all he wants to do is plant a chip in her brain to make her obey him. I have to say, I find a woman who obeys me boring. I prefer a woman with spirit who'll argue with me and reach for her whip if I don't give way.

Haunting Desires (4½ Stars)

I can already hear my readers screaming that I've made a mistake. The film is called "Grave Desires". That's what it says on the Blu-ray box. Yes, I know, but the film's original title was "Haunting Desires" when it was released in 2003. The title was changed for the new release for copyright reasons. But I'm glad that I finally have it in my hands. I say finally, because it's the only Medina film which hasn't been released until now, apart from a censored version that Fred Olen Ray put together for Blockbuster.

The film is about a strip club in which the dancers are vampires. They make no attempt to hide their activities. They leave the corpses of their male customers naked and drained of blood where they're easy to find. The police are quick to investigate. Detective Trout (Jay Richardson) is aided by the newspaper reporter Jill Connor (Beverly Lynne). Or is he hindered by her? It's a bit of both.

For me, the person who carries the film is Evan Stone as the vampire Adrian. Evan is a prolific actor who's made over 1200 films, but I consider this his best role. This was his second film with Fred Olen Ray after "Tomb of the Werewolf", and they went on to make another 12 films together.

For some reason, Eric Masterson isn't credited, despite having a lot of screen time. He plays Jill Connor's unfaithful husband.

I find it difficult to believe any man would be unfaithful to a woman who looks like this. Beverly Lynne must be one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

The film isn't available from Amazon. It's sold exclusively by Makeflix, like most of the other recent Retromedia films.

That's 12 out of 54 films released on Blu-ray so far. At the current speed they won't all be available on Blu-ray until 2040. I'm hoping Fred will speed up, but there are problems with the early Medina films. The first films were made in single density, so they'll need time-intensive remastering to be prepared for Blu-ray. Fred will only do that if he's 100% certain he'll make a profit. The later films shot in high density can be transferred to Blu-ray with a minimum of effort.

Bikini Airways (4 Stars)

I'm happy to say that Fred Olen Ray has released another one of the Medina films on Blu-ray. He's getting there, slowly but surely. Five down, 27 to go.

I call this series of films the Medina Collection, since they were directed by Fred using the pseudonym Juan Medina or Nicholas Juan Medina. He prefers to refer to them as his bikini films, even though there are no bikinis in most of the films.

This is the third version of the film I've bought so far. The first DVD was poor quality, and worst of all, it was a double-sided DVD. The second DVD was remastered from the original tapes. It was a significant improvement. The Blu-ray disc that I now hold in my hands is a further improvement, as I can see from comparing it with the second DVD. I have to qualify it though. The wide angle scenes are still slightly fuzzy, but the close up scenes look almost perfect on my 4K OLED television.

Pilots have been flying the skies for years, but they've never seen a UFO.

"Bikini Airways" is notable for having the first appearance of Eric Masterson in a Retromedia film. He went on to make a total of eleven films.

Admittedly, "Bikini Airways" is trashy, but I like trash. It was a good film that kicked off 53 further films in its softporn genra. Or was it 52? Fred says that "Bikini Airways" was the first of the bikini films, but it was the second film in the Medina Collection.
