"Desierto" is a film with a very simple plot. A group of Mexicans are smuggled across the border into the USA by people smugglers. They're hunted by a man who considers it his God-given duty to kill all illegal immigrants.
It's a predictable film, which I don't mean as a criticism. One by one the Mexicans are shot, making it a typical last-man-standing film. Early in the film it was obvious who the two survivors would be, so obvious that I don't consider it to be a spoiler.
The film's strength is in the contrast of the beautiful desert scenery and the abject horror of unarmed men and women being shot by a cruel assailant.
This is the Mexican border, marked by a simple barbed wire fence. If it's so easy to cross the border I'm surprised that anyone is left in Mexico.
The film was a box office flop, which I consider unfair. Despite its simplicity (maybe because of its simplicity) it provides enjoyment for 90 minutes.
