I was shocked to hear Angela Mao's character say that Thai boxing is stronger
than kung fu. That sounds almost blasphemous coming from a 1974 Chinese
martial arts film. The Thai boxing scenes didn't do much to convince me. They
were sterile and lacked the excitement I was hoping for.
The film improves considerably when Angela finally gets to use some proper
kung fu. The fights in the middle and especially towards the end have much
more energy, and this is where Angela Mao comes into her own. She's such an
impressive martial artist that it's a shame the film doesn't make better use
of her.
It's one of those
Angela Mao films where the star herself is more entertaining than the film
around her.
So many films, so little time.
