Timecrimes (5 Stars)

Two things puzzle me about this film:

First, why do some reviewers call it a comedy? There's nothing funny about it.

Second, why haven't I watched it for eight years? A film this good deserves to be watched on a regular basis.

Hector is a middle-aged man who stumbles on a time machine which can send him back a few hours into the past. He makes mistakes, so he goes back in time to stop himself, but even though he battles with his former selves, everything still takes place without any change. Read my last review for a detailed description of the plot. All I'll do here is ask the question whether fate guides Hector in his actions. What he's done in the past becomes his future when he travels back in time. Why is he compelled to do the same things over and over again? You would think that knowing what will happen would give Hector the knowledge to change the past.

Other time travel films are full of temporal paradoxes. The only paradox in "Timecrimes" is that temporal paradoxes don't occur.
