Isn't it romantic? (5 Stars)

Rebel Wilson plays Natalie, an Australian woman living in New York. As a child she loved watching romantic comedies on television, but her mother told her that they were just fantasy. Things like that only happen in the lives of beautiful women, but Natalie was too fat to find love. 25 years later she's taken her mother's words to heart. She doesn't expect she will ever find love. I'm sure that there are many men who would appreciate her – just look at the picture above! – but she's closed her eyes to love.

One day she's walking home from work and she's mugged in a subway station. She bangs her head, and when she wakes up she's living in a different world. She's surrounded by handsome looking men who are interested in her, her crummy little apartment has become large and beautiful, and she has a gay best friend. Her new world follows all the cliches of romantic comedies, including a dramatic voiceover and spontaneous song and dance performances in the street.

Can Natalie find love in the new world? It all seems too easy.

This is an amazing film. It isn't as deep as "Pleasantville", but it's a similar sort of idea. When I watched it today, or rather late yesterday evening, I didn't know whether to laugh or take it seriously. Yes, it's a comedy, but if it's only seen as a comedy a lot will be lost. I look forward to watching it again soon.

After its cinema release Netflix acquired the exclusive rights to the film, so it's doubtful it will be made available on DVD or Blu-ray.
