Sound of Violence (4 Stars)

This is the 13th film in the Stuttgart Fantasy Film Festival.

Alexis Reeves is a 10-year-old girl who's gone deaf as the result of an illness. Her father returns from the army suffering from PTSD. A few days later her father brutally batters her mother to death. Alexis hits him over the head with a hammer to stop him, killing him in the process. While hitting him she sees bright colours. She's seeing sound instead of hearing it.

Her hearing returns as she grows older. She becomes a lecturer in a music school. She's desperate to see the colours that she witnessed as a 10-year-old. She records experimental music. She uses hard percussive beats accompanied by the sound of someone suffering. Alexis goes on a killing spree, letting people suffer before their death, so that she can mix the sound of their screams with her music.

This is a fascinating film. There's a subplot of her hearing sporadically failing and returning as an adult. This confuses the story. It should have been left out.
