WWF 1997.05.05 - Monday Night Raw

Location: Brown County Expo, Green Bay, Wisconsin
Commentators: Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross

This event was broadcast live.

Bret Hart comes to the ring, wheeled into the arena by Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart and Brian Pillman, collectively known as the Hart Foundation. He thanks them for their support last week in dedicating their matches to him and defending him against Steve Austin. He runs down American wrestling fans, as he always does. He says that he'll attack Shawn Michaels next.

Match 1. Ahmed Johnson vs Rockabilly

Rockabilly is accompanied to the ring by Honky Tonk Man. For most of the match Ahmed has the advantage. While the referee is distracted, Rockabilly grabs Honky Tonk Man's guitar to use it as a weapon. Ahmed takes the guitar off Rockabilly and hits him over the head with it. At this moment the referee turns round and disqualifies Ahmed Johnson.

Meanwhile, Bret Hart and his gang are searching the locker rooms for Shawn Michaels.

Match 2. Vader vs Goldust

Goldust is accompanied to the ring by Marlena. Ken Shamrock is the guest commentator. After a hard match Vader defeats Goldust with a power bomb. Throughout the match Jerry Lawler is mocking Ken, telling him that Vader will squash him like a bug. After the match Vader threatens Ken, so Ken runs into the ring to attack him. While they're scuffling on the floor, Mankind attacks Ken Shamrock from behind. Goldust attacks Mankind, and it's a chaotic four-way fight until the referee separates them.

Match 3. Crush vs three unnamed jobbers

Faarooq says he wants to give Ahmed Johnson an example of what he has to face on next Sunday's Pay-Per-View. Crush is going to fight three wrestlers in a row. His opponents aren't named. Crush easily defeats the first, then the second. The third jobber, dressed in a hoodie, runs into the ring and surprisingly pins Crush. He rips off his hoodie, revealing himself to be Ahmed Johnson.

Meanwhile, Bret Hart and his gang are searching for Shawn Michaels in the parking lot. Do they really think Shawn Michaels will be hiding under a truck? This is getting riiculous.

They're looking in all the wrong places. Shawn Michaels isn't hiding, he's standing in the ring being interviewed by Vince McMahon. Shawn says that his injuries have almost healed, so he plans to start wrestling again at next month's Pay-Per-View.

Bret Hart replies over the Titantron. He says that Shawn looks fit already and is only pretending to be injured because he's scared. He says that he should fight Jim Neidhart tonight. Shawn accepts the challenge. It was a trap. Immediately after they start fighting British Bulldog and Owen Hart enter the ring, making it a three-on-one. Then the Legion of Doom enter the ring to defend Shawn. The Hart Foundation flees.

Match 4. Legion of Doom vs Doug Furnas & Phil LaFon

Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon come to the ring first. They call themselves the most exciting tag team in the WWF. The fans seem to disagree. It's possible that they're first class technical wrestlers, but the fans prefer wrestlers with gimmicks and crazy costumes; wrestlers like the Legion of Doom.

The two teams are evenly matched, with the advantage see-sawing from one side to the other. British Bulldog enters the arena and distracts the referee. Owen Hart attacks Animal, allowing Phil LaFon to pin him.

Meanwhile, Shawn Michaels is searching for the other members of the Hart Foundation in the locker rooms. He's trying to hit them with a chair, so the officials are attempting to restrain him. A chaotic brawl ensues. It doesn't stop until Steve Austin enters the locker room and attacks the Hart Foundation.

Someone has stolen the Undertaker's WWF championship belt. The Undertaker comes to the ring and says that stealing the belt doesn't make him the champion, but he intends to find and punish the person before the night is over. He also says that he'll defeat Steve Austin next Sunday at the Pay-Per-View.

Sunny comes out, modelling the new Austin 3:16 T-shirt. It looks better on her than it would on me.

Match 5. Steve Austin vs British Bulldog

Steve Austin faces British Bulldog in a non-title match. It's fairly fought without any interference from outside. Eventually Steve Austin wins the match with a Stone Cold Stunner. After the match he's attacked by Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart. Owen is carrying the stolen WWF championship belt!

The Legion of Doom run into the ring and attack Jim Neidhart and Owen. Steve Austin attacks British Bulldog again. Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon run into the ring and attack the Legion of Doom. Shawn Michaels runs into the ring and attacks Jim Neidhart. The lights go out. When they go on again, the Undertaker is in the ring attacking Owen Hart. Shawn Michaels picks up the WWF championship belt and uses it to knock Jim Neidhart out. He's no thief, so he lays the belt on the ring apron and leaves. Steve Austin picks up the belt, and the Undertaker approaches him threateningly. At this point all the other wrestlers have gone. Steve drops the belt, and he begins to fight with the Undertaker. The fight continues outside the ring. The officials try to separate them, but the Undertaker hits everyone who gets in his way. He even knocks out Jerry Brisco.

When the show goes off the air the Undertaker and Steve Austin are still brawling.
