Girls, Guns and Blood (4 Stars)
I've been hearing a lot of buzz about this film for months, so I was happy when I noticed it's recently been added to Amazon Prime. Did I expect a good film? I didn't expect an Oscar winning film, but I expected something enjoyable and possibly sexy, a film to give me a warm feeling inside. In that respect, it's everything I hoped for.
Somewhere in Texas there's a brothel called Paradise Ranch. The madame is Monique, played by Rebecca Love. She only has a few girls, but they're more than enough to handle the paying customers, whatever needs they may have. She's saving money so they can all go on vacation to Oklahoma. Wow! Is that the hottest tourist destination for girls down south?
A gang of five men arrive, posing as rich customers, to rob the girls of their hard earned money. They'll never get to Oklahoma after all.
The other girls are quickly overwhelmed, but Monique's army training means she can leap into action. She kills one of the gang, but five on one isn't fair odds, and she's shot dead.
Christine Nguyen vows revenge with delicious over-acting. Or maybe she's just angry because she can't travel to Oklahoma. Whichever it is, she's incredible.
But the revenge can't start until they've posed for one last selfie with Monique. You haven't lived until you've done a selfie with a corpse.
The girls are well-equipped. They all own guns that they bought for self-defence. It's Texas, after all. They grab their weapons and line up outside, as if posing for an unseen photographer. I just noticed that this scene was used for Photoshopping the film poster.
The gang's car breaks down a few miles away, so they divide the money and walk off in different directions. This makes them easy targets for the girls. They can go after them and pick them off one at a time. They can't bring Monique back from the dead, but if they get their money back they'll be able to take a vacation in Oklahoma to remember her.
The film's sexiest scene is when the girls capture the first gang member. They tie him to a tree and interrogate him to find out details about the gang's boss. What does he react to, pleasure or pain? As the following pictures show, both are effective.
Now that the girls have the information they need, they can kill him. Since he was so cooperative, he's earned himself a pleasant death. He's given a lap dance while they strangle him with a rope. That's how I want to die.
As the film continues, there are a few surprises. Not every man is as easy to catch. The film even promises a sequel. I can hardly wait.
After a few showings at B Movie festivals in the USA, the film is now available exclusively on Amazon Prime. I hope there will be a release on disc one day. I'd love to see interviews with the cast and crew.
