Superscott in the Jungle

I don't know the order in which the three Superscott stories were released. It's possible that they were released at the same time. For an explanation of the stories, see my previous post.

Superscott in the Jungle

One morning a letter arrived at the green tower on the black hill where Superscott lived. It was from Superscott's friend Bwana, the Great White Hunter. "Och, Bwana!" thought Superscott. "What good times we've had together!"

He read the letter and exclaimed, "Bwana's in trouble. I'll go right away".

So he packed his elephant gun, tiger gun, gorilla gun, his sun hat and his porage and set off on his jet scooter for Africa.

The drums had announced Superscott's arrival, so Bwana was waiting for him.

"Scotty! Thanks for coming so quickly. We've a real problem here", cried Bwana.

"Och, it's nothing. How can I help?"

A little way into the jungle Bwana pointed out some tracks of Gumbu, the fierce white Gorilla.

"He's terrorised every settlement from here to the Zambezi. I've nearly caught him 20 times, but the beast always escapes".

Superscott reassured Bwana, "Don't worry, my friend. We'll work as a team. We'll get him".

Next morning, after a good porage breakfast to give them strength, and armed with gorilla guns, the two friends made their way into the jungle. After two days of following Gumbu's path of destruction they found fresh tracks.

The jungle was strangely silent, except for the lumbering noises of the gorilla in the distance. Lions and tigers passed by, but ran quickly out of sight.

"Right, Laddie", whispered Superscott, "now's our chance. You circle round and try to get in front of him. But don't let the beastie hear you".

Bwana nodded that he understood.

"Then", continued Superscott, "you frighten him with a loud noise. He should run my way and I'll try and get a shot at him. Now off you go".

Bwana skulked off into the undergrowth. Superscott moved nearer to the noise of the Gorilla. Suddenly he saw it. In spite of its evil nature, it was a magnificent animal. But a killer!

Then, instead of Bwana's signal, Superscott heard a terrible yell. Now he could see. Gumbu was attacking Bwana. The great beast's arms were around the hunter's chest, squeezing the life out of him. It was a risk, but Superscott took aim and fired. With a roar, the beast fell dead. Superscott rushed up to his friend, fearing the worst, but Bwana was only bruised.

Wearily the two friends returned to the camp, knowing the jungle was once again safe and they could enjoy a visit together.
