Captain America and the Falcon #182
Title: Inferno!
Writer: Steve Englehart
Artist: Frank Robbins
Villain: Serpent Squad (Madame Viper, Cobra)
Regulars: Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter
Guests: Gabe Jones
This issue contains two unrelated stories. In the first 11 pages Nomad is
fighting against the remaining members of the Serpent Squad, Madame Viper and
Cobra. The police try to stop Nomad, handcuffing him to a police car, because
they don't recognise him. Madame Viper and Cobra are outnumbered by the police
and have nowhere to run. Madame Viper puts on the Serpent Crown to ask for
advice. It tells her that they should die as martyrs, because a new Serpent
Squad will arise. Cobra thinks she's mad and wants to give himself up.
Nomad breaks free and comes to join battle. The house collapses around them
in a blazing inferno.
Nomad saves Cobra, but Madame Viper (seemingly) dies. The Serpent Crown slides
away by itself.
In the last 6 pages we see the Falcon training when he's joined by the new
Captain America, the kid Roscoe from Brooklyn. The Falcon gives Roscoe another
chance, despite his problems last issue. Together they attack three strangely
dressed men who're breaking into a bank carrying suitcases. The Falcon and
Roscoe easily overpower them. Then they discover that the suitcases are
already full of money. They're carrying money in, not out? Then they're
knocked over by a blast from a stun gun. The person carrying it is the Red
Skull.
Didn't the Red Skull die years ago? I forgot how log ago it was, so I had to
search. It was in
Captain America #148 in April 1972. You can't keep a bad guy down.
